FHE Pumpkin Carving

When we got the call for free pumpkins we opened the doors and invited the RiffRaff in!
What can I say, we're cheap! We had a great Family Home Evening with a few of our friends The McClellan's, the Gerry's, and the Phillips.
There was even a bit of a coupon exchange with the girls
The Final Product of our Efforts:
McKenna's Scary Pumpkin
Tyler's fun loving heart Jack'O Latern
The Gerry's incredible Skull Face Jackolatern
Nathan also had a skullface, Ava's cat and

Great fun FHE activity!

Perfect

I know I must have been this way, but I don't recall very clearly the level of perfection sought for as a child. John has already admitted that he required a great deal of perfection so I think I will pass the blame onto him.

I have a child who demands perfection, well she's getting better but today perfection was a must. It was the night of ML Elementary school's Monster Mash Party and since her Halloween costume wasn't finished we decided to put together something and be Barbie from her latest movie Princess Charm School in her school uniform. Various friends generously loaned out vests, shirts and tie, but alas they were the wrong colors. I thought they looked great, afterall it is Halloween, nothing is supposed to be "perfect", just fun? Right? :)

With a fun wig McKenna decided she was happy to be Cinderella for an evening. Tyler a fancy witch, and Tate...well he's not convinced of the fun of dressing up just yet so we sufficed with a nice orange Halloween shirt with scary monsters on the front.
Heading into the Party in typical rainy October weather
It was fun to see our friends and their costumes.
Mya was Rio-beautifully done!
They held the Monster Mash in the auditorium/gym. We hit a few stations that were around the perimeters and then we were distracted by the music and the hula hoops, and then dancing to the Hokey Pokey.
We didn't stay too long, but it ended with Cotton Candy and Popcorn.
Let the Halloween Festivities Begin!

1st Grade Field Trip: Spooner Farms

With McKenna in the 1st Grade I was a little worried about her feeling left out of going to the pumpkin patches with us. I was thrilled to find her school taking advantage of their new location by having the 1st Grade Field trip to Spooner Farms a few blocks down the street. I'm not complaining, I had a great time with the 1st Graders, despite the chilly weather.
A little presentation on the importance of Farms and the creatures that are supported by farms.
Sarah joined McKenna and I-a very fun and loving girl with a short attention span and a lot of energy. I'm sure many could pry the same thing about most 1st graders, including McKenna.
We got to ride a piggy pulled by a tractor to the Alice in Wonderland's pumpkin patch to pick the perfect pumpkin.
and then onto the rope maze-which was FULL of energy and people.
Then a few fun pictures.
We then had some hot cider and then McKenna wanted to find the pigs before we left.
A very fun day that I'm glad I got to be a part of.

Spiders...

McKenna's assignment at school was to make 3d spiders.
This is a good stretch for both of us as unless it involves food, so I rummaged through the drawer and found some clay from a few years ago and so we got to work molding it into spiders and this is what we made:`

Good job guys!
