The Kissing Hand

McKenna has a new favorite book called "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn.

It's a story about a Raccoon named Chester who doesn't want to go to school. He wants to stay home and play with his toys, his brother and sister, read his books and swing in his swing (and watch his movies if Raccoons had tv). He wants to stay home with his mother. She assures him that he'll love school--with its promise of new friends, new toys, and new books. Even better, she has a special secret that's been in the family for years--the Kissing Hand. This secret, she tells him, will make school seem as cozy as home. She takes her son's hand, spreads his tiny fingers into a fan and kisses his palm.

They read this story and applied it to her lessons at school the first week of school. Since then we've gotten the book from the library, read it every night and then this morning in attempt to calm her nerves I drew a heart on her palm-apparently kissing it yesterday just wasn't enough. :)

Is anyone else's kids having a hard time seperating from their mom or dad to go to school?
Any ideas or suggestions on what to do to help a kid who doesn't want to go to school?
Isn't this supposed to start in Junior High or High School?

Oh my McKenna how We love you!
